Our Lady of Lourdes is a beacon among faith communities for many reasons. We have consistently maintained presence and ministry to countless individuals and families, enabling growth in every person who comes to us. We are committed to our bold mission to Seek Unity. Celebrate Diversity. By Praying, Caring and Sharing. The challenges and setbacks we have experienced over the years have only served to strengthen our commitment to embracing God’s mission among us. I am inspired and grateful to be pastor as we celebrate our 125th Anniversary throughout this entire year. Please note the many activities that are planned for the year. Some details are found in this week’s bulletin.

While I am preparing to begin an internship away from the parish, I find myself thinking about the many blessings of this parish. Our Perpetual Adoration Chapel is a place of comfort and consolation for thousands of adorers and seekers every year since 1992. We have provided a warm meal, fellowship and hope in our Soup Kitchen for countless indi- viduals every Wednesday since 1985. Our Pastoral Migratoria provides assistance to immigrants with legal and educa- tional services along with emergency assistance. Our ministries are available to children, teens, young adults and adults. We provide retreats, conferences, small group faith-sharing, prayer, and devotional groups. It is an honor to work with our priests and dedicated pastoral staff. I am excited to begin an internship which will last until May 2018. However, I will be thinking and praying for all of you during this time.

I have been pursuing a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology over the past few years. The final requirement for this degree is to work full-time in an approved agency. I will be working at Maryville Academy in Des Plaines, IL. My work will be with women in recovery and adolescents facing difficult, stressful trauma in their lives. I will be residing in St. Catherine Laboure Parish in Glenview, IL. There will also be some time for retreat and rest during this internship. My hope is to incorporate these additional skills into my existing ministry. Thank you for your support and encouragement throughout this exciting venture. I am truly blessed to be one of the priests here at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. I know that I will see you throughout the course of the year.

Remember that our Summer Celebration is taking place this weekend. We have live music from bands providing diverse rhythms and sounds. This year we are dedicating the event for our 125th Anniversary as a parish. I am most grateful for your contributions of time, talent and treasure that have contributed to this and many other events.

God bless you!

Fr. Mike
