Becoming Catholic RCIA

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process designed for those who are considering joining the Catholic Church by celebrating the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil. The process welcomes adults who have never been baptized and those who have been baptized in another Christian tradition, as well as adult Catholics who wish to be confirmed.

The R.C.I.A. contains five main stages or phases:

  • The Period of Inquiry (Also known as the time of Evangelization or Pre-Catechumenate)
  • Catechumenate
  • Period of Purification and Enlightenment/Scrutinies
  • The Paschal Triduum with the Sacraments of Initiation
  • Mystagogical Catechesis

Have you been baptized and received your first Holy Communion in the Catholic tradition, but never received the Sacrament of Confirmation? If you are interested in being confirmed this year and are 18 years and older, please call the Rectory at 773.561.2141 to set up an appointment to discuss this process.
