...the need for support became greater.

When I first signed on to be part of the “Awakening” team, I was going to only help drive the marketing. Not only is Father Mike is my pastor, he’s my friend, and I’m always happy to help him with projects of his.

Then 2020 began to do it’s 2020 thing, and we had to either reimagine the concert, or cancel. As we brainstormed, Father Mike asked me, “What if you sang something?” I told him I would be more useful if I focused on the marketing side
of things.

Over a few weeks, he asked me a few more times so I broke down and said, “Fine—can I do whatever I want?” to which he replied, “Don’t you always?” Naturally I do, but I like to make him say it anyway. So, I chose a great song by my favorite artist, teamed up with a dynamite accompanist in Dennis Smith, and had a little fun! All for a very worthy cause and essential service.

Our Soup Kitchen has always provided meals to those in our community who struggle with food insecurity. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the need for support became even greater. Surely the dedicated team that runs the Soup
Kitchen should be counted among the many heroes that continued to serve our community during the lockdown.

I’m proud to have been part of the “Awakening” team. It was inspiring that despite the obstacles the pandemic presented, each of us felt it was important to keep going so we could do our part to help support the most vulnerable in our community. All those Sundays we couldn’t gather together to read The Word, we were determined to still live The Word.
